Racing ahead or lagging behind? Territorial cohesion in human development around the globe

چکیده

This paper investigates whether global improvements in human development involve subnational regions a territorially cohesive way. We use index (SHDI) for 1778 within 163 countries over three decades, and propose measures relative over- under-performance. find that frequently observed reductions of within-country inequality are not necessarily accompanied by under- over-performance. Moreover, from perspective, we detect the presence non-negligible set under-developing spanning across 30 plus fail to catch-up with world average development.
